I first heard about Cheekbone Cosmetics the same way I learn about most things these days, through social media. I was interested in the brand once I read that it was created by a First Nations woman from Canada and that 10% of the profits are donated to Indigenous education.

So, I decided to reach out and see if they would be interested in sending me some products in exchange for a review. They sent me three matte liquid lipsticks and an eyebrow shaper to try. I was surprised how quickly everything came considering it was shipped from Canada.

I’ve got to be honest. Before opening the package, I was worried.

I hoped and prayed I would like their products because I love supporting Native and Aboriginal businesses, but sometimes the products fall flat. (I really hate it when that happens.)

But that’s not the case with Cheekbone. I fell head-over-heels in LOVE with their liquid lipstick and eyebrow shaper!

Their liquid lipsticks, in particular, are nothing short of incredible! The formula they use is better than any other wet-to-dry matte lipstick I’ve ever used and I’ve tried them all. (Seriously.) The color lasts for hours (even after eating!), there are no parabens, they’re virtually odor-free and they’re safe for sensitive skin. And, if you like lighter shades you are probably well aware that most brands often look streaky due to subpar formulas. Well, that’s not the case with Cheekbone. The color looks just as it should every time, no matter how much (or how little) you apply. They make about a dozen different shades, so if you’re not sure where to begin, try ASHLEY. It’s my absolute favorite shade and looks amazing on anyone!

They later sent me their highlight palette (Stardust) and their contour palette (Earth). I absolutely adore the highlight palette! The lightest color, in particular, is my jam. The pigment is very rich and provides a really beautiful highlight. I was pleasantly surprised that the contour palette was a perfect match for my skin tone, too.

If you’ve never heard of Cheekbone, I highly suggest you give the brand a try. What’s more, the products are cruelty free!

Doremiel Organics Review: Honey Skincare

Beauty Featured 0 Comments

“If everything is honey, and I am what I eat, I must be made of honey…and life is very sweet!” –Winnie The pooh

Have you heard of Doremiel Organics yet? They’re all over Instagram, so I was really excited that they sent me three of their products to try: the organic honey anti-age eye moisturizer ($25), organic honey moisture serum ($33), and organic honey revitalizing night cream ($36).

My first impression of the products was that the packaging is nice and the products smell really good. There are definite notes of sweet honey, but overall the smell is very clean and light.

Honey, for those who don’t know, is a natural antibacterial that treats acne and delivers antioxidants to the skin to prevent aging. (Perfect for someone in her 30s who still breaks out occasionally and also cares about reducing fine lines and wrinkles!) Another natural ingredient in their products are Amla fruit which is one of the most potent antioxidants in the world and improves collagen and elasticity to the skin.

I’ve used about a dozen different skincare products trying to get rid of a few problem areas on my face. Specifically, breakouts that won’t go away and keep coming back. I was thinking perhaps that’s because I’ve had a chemical overload. Maybe my skin just needed a boost from something natural?

That’s why I was excited to try an organic product line. Every product they make is organic, which I can appreciate.

My mother hopped on the “organic everything” bandwagon years ago, but I’ve been slow to follow. And, honestly, I’ve only recently started to care about what I put on my skin. Given that the skin is the our largest organ, it’s important to pay close attention to what we’re slathering on it.

Doremiel is non-GMO and contains no gluten, parabens, hydrogenates, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate or artificial frangrances. So, even those with the most sensitive skin should be able to use their products.

While the products I tested didn’t stop my breakouts, they did “heal” my skin. My face has never felt more soft and my skin has never felt more supple than since I started using Doremiel. I’m curious to find out how my skin would react to their organic honey gentle cleansing jelly ($21.50) and their honey gentle toner ($21.50). I would imagine if I added those products to my skincare routine, I would have had even better results!

I’ll continue to use these creams/serum and post any updates should I have them. In the meantime, keep checking back for more beauty-related content.
