This post is in partnership with Macy’s and City Chic.
I first heard about plus size Australian brand, City Chic, when I complimented a friend on her dress. It was gorgeous and I hadn’t seen anything like it, so I knew I had to get my hands on their clothing. At the time, I was only able to find City Chic pieces online. (While I love shopping online, I prefer to be able to try on pieces in-store to at least know how the sizing runs.)
Fast forward a couple of years later and now City Chic is available at my local Macy’s store! I’m sure you can imagine my excitement. 🙂
This look that I styled is perfect for Fall. I paired their black and white striped tunic button down blouse with their faux leather leggings. What I really love about this look is how versatile it is. You can wear the tunic as a long blouse, tie it in the front to bring up the hemline and show off your leggings (and maybe even a little skin), layer it under a sweater or jacket, tuck it in or wear it open like a kimono or cardigan…The options are truly endless!
I paired the look with a faux leather jacket and faux suede over the knee boots for a cool, biker-inspired look.
One thing to note about City Chic is how their sizes run. As a plus size babe, I’d never imagine wearing a size Small, but City Chic’s size chart is a little different. I will say that their clothes seem to run very true to size. So, they get an A+ for fit! And now that I can find the brand at my nearest Macy’s store, I’m even more smitten!
Have you ever heard of City Chic? Have you ever tried their clothing? What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
Thank you to Macy’s for sponsoring this post. As always, all views expressed are my own.
“When in doubt, wear red.” –Bill Blass
Is it just me or is the color red everywhere? At first I thought maybe it was just because of the holidays…then Valentine’s Day…but, nope. Red – especially candy apple red – is here. So, move out of the way! Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have to have seen it too. Red is having a major moment right now.
I remember late last year when Eloquii released their faux leather moto jacket in this glorious shade of candy red, I knew I just had to have it. So, I immediately put myself on their waitlist and waited and waited and waited. (Admittedly, I wasn’t very patient either. I contacted customer service several times asking them when they’d be releasing more red moto jackets.) I had a furious determination to get my hands on that jacket when finally one day I received the e-mail all #XOQers look forward to: “Good things come to those who wait” read the subject line. I don’t know if I’ve ever been more happy to receive an e-mail from Eloquii!
I snatched up that jacket along with the accordion pleat midi skirt in the same shade. I had a vision…and this was it.
I rocked this look for V-day, but it works for any occasion when you want to stand out and make a statement. I recently wore this ensemble to an LA blogger event and I got so many compliments, it was (almost) embarrassing.
If you want to take your look up a notch (or several) snag something in red – and make it quick!
If you’ve already taken notice of the trend and have incorporated something red into your wardrobe, tell me about it in the comments. I’d love some more ideas on how to rock this must have color.

“You can’t buy happiness but you can buy ice cream and that’s kind of the same thing.” – Unknown
I’m going to be real with you. Despite how my social media life is beginning to look and how snazzy this blog is *dusts off shoulder,* The Chief of Style as a brand is still very new. And for that reason, no one is sending me freebies. Well, except for the fine people at Slink (post to come).
Tickets to the Museum of Ice Cream are hard to come by. At this point, the only way you’re getting in is if you pay $100 per person to someone selling their ticket on Craigslist or you’re a brand ambassador for a brand like Forever 21. Since that’s not my reality just yet and, thus, I wasn’t able to take a cute picture in the rainbow sprinkles pit or in the mint chocolate chip room. So, I did the next best thing: I took pictures outside. I mean, how often do you get to shoot in front of a bubble gum-pink wall?
Color-blocking and pattern-mixing has always been and will always be a thing I’m into. That said, I wanted to take advantage of a little of both…and top it off with some bling. (My fav!)
This look could work for a number of venues: work, brunch, drinks with friends…it’s got a nice mix of class and sass. Just switch up your shoes and maybe your accessories. (I pulled off the look in both leopard and nude heels. Did you notice?) I hope this look inspires you to pair a basic white with more daring colors and prints.
On the subject of body-positivity, I will say that I was hesitant to post these photos because when I look at them, all I see is Tummy (with a capital T). But, in an effort to celebrate all parts of me and release any body shame I have, I’m sharing them here. Cheers to visible soft tummies and self-love (at any size)! <3
