Found footage | You’ve been asking for me to share my going out lewks. I’m trying to be one of those GRWM girlies, but it’s harddd. I’m only inspired to throw a lewk together minutes before I need to leave…so, there’s never enough time. Perhaps I’ll do a “Get Un-Ready With Me” video / Live one day. 🤪

Anywho, here’s last night’s outfit. The theme was “Wild Thoughts” 🐍🐯🐾 Everything is second-hand.

Did you know probably 95% of what I own and wear is thrifted, second-hand (but new / new with tags) or a gifted/collab item?

Here are my usual sources:
@theplusbusboutique @poshmark @ebay @mercari @depop, and now I can add @thickthriftla to my growing list! (I used to have an IG guide with physical plus size second-hand stores, but IG got rid of that feature.) You can even find clothes, shoes, bags on @facebookmarketplace and @offerup!

Buying second hand satisfies a few of my needs:
1. Supplying me with an amazing wardrobe
2. Doing so while saving money
3. Using my brain bc knowing vintage brands, keywords, your measurements, etc. is scientific and super helpful (I love research!!)
4. Other people like playing video games…I like hunting for ‘vintage gold’
5. I love not looking like a cookie-cutter copy of someone else

Aging has always been a “thing” for women in western society. Whether it’s conversations about our “biological clocks” and their ever increasingly loud “ticking,” the importance of keeping our skin from wrinkling, the belief that we should force our bodies to adhere to an ideal dress size (otherwise we’re deemed “unhealthy”) or the pressure to hang onto your youth for as long as you can by pulling out or dying any silver strands that spring up…women’s bodies are always up for public discourse, scrutiny, and debate.

I was recently asked to be a part of this article for @selfmagazine written by @jennaaryu about being proud of my gray hair. I’d begun to embrace my gray strands after undergoing brain surgery for severe Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus in 2021. @sarahthehairwitch helped me create a style that allowed me to feel fierce and fabulous at a time when I was at my lowest.

Radical self-acceptance and self-love of our age, our aging process, and our bodies at every stage is key to our liberation and our happiness. When others see us living our lives freely, it gives them permission to do the same. Can you even imagine the impact of this kind of chain reaction? 🌎⛓️🫶🏽💕
