I feel like giving up every damn day, but every morning I wake up with a fire in my belly and resilience in my bones. I’m just not made to quit.

My only competition is Me vs. Me and I will win!

For those who are curious, here’s a little backstory on these photos:
Last April, I shot 3 lewks for DapperQ’s new book -dapperQ Style, Ungendering Fashion- and this is one of the outfits I put together. Everything, except the skirt + my @sucrecouture ring, is secondhand.

My favorite part about this outfit are:
- my ankle boots which I love and will never get rid of!
- my blazer, the perfect leopard print, tailored blazer with lightly padded shoulders
- my vintage biker t-shirt that I bought when I lived in Miami and would go thrifting a few times per week to resell via my Poshmark closet. This shirt, which probably cost less than $2, has lived many lives, seen a lot of things, and knows too much…and I’m obsessed. I love a lived-in t-shirt!!

Because I love a good boxy shoulder, I pinned shoulder pads to the inside of the shirt. #fashionhack

Self-love is revolutionary. Especially for people in marginalized bodies.

Specifically those of us who are: fat, Black, Indigenous, brown, queer, trans, women, Femme, disabled, neurodivergent, a religious minority, and otherwise oppressed.

Our entire lives, we’re told in countless ways, big and small, to hate ourselves.

…by the media, by society, and even for some of us, by our families.

It makes sense.

We live in a capitalistic, white supremacist nation. If we didn’t hate ourselves, we would have less desire to buy things in order to self-soothe.

We hand over our hard earned money to try and reach “perfection.” We feel the need to change ourselves physically in an effort to meet the current beauty standard. It’s constantly changing, for this reason.

A lot of people don’t love themself and they look down on anyone who does. This is why there are internet trolls and bullies.

I promise, when you love yourself and you see someone else loving themself, it makes you feel good. The last thing you’ll feel is disgust or hate.

I honor the divine in me. ✨
And, I honor the divine in you. ✨
I absolutely l o v e seeing you love on yourself. 💞

Self-love is the best love. And, you deserve it. 💖
